CMTP 230, Senior Project 1 / Internship Course Information and Assignments:

CMTP 230, Senior Internship

  • CMTP 230 Syllabus

  • CMTP 230 Course Schedule
  1. Obtain an internship in the Information Technology Dept. at a business, educational institution, or non-profit organization.

Some internship opportunities are provided by the CT Dept. through requests from organizations that contact the CT Faculty.  Most of these internship opportunities are disseminated to CT students via each student's SMCC email address ([studentname]@smccme.edu).

Many students obtain there own internships through relationships that they have with particular organizations, or through friends and relatives that refer them to the organizations that they are associated with.

Students who are currently employed in the IT Dept. of an organization may use their employment to complete the requisite internship hours.

  2. Once you have obtained an internship opportunity, or have identified a possible internship position, contact Howard Burpee via email.  Include basic information as to the internship position in the email.  Expect a return email containing approval for the internship.

  3. Complete the student internship contract as soon as you have started your internship.

  4. Request that the individual who is supervising your internship complete the internship provider information sheet as soon as possible after you have started your internship.

  5. Complete assignment 1 within two weeks of starting your internship.

  6. While you are performing your internship duties, create a journal that reflects upon your internship experience.  This journal is to be submitted to the Professor at the completion of your internship.
The journal shall be a minimum of five pages long, shall follow the course writing manual, and shall be submitted as a .pdf file via an email attachment to the professor.

  7. Once you have completed the 135 hours required for the internship, have the person who has been supervising you during your internship write a letter to your Professor, on the organization's stationary, stating that you have completed the hours required.
The letter should then be mailed (as an email attachment or snail-mail) to Howard Burpee (mailing address link).
