Recommended courses: CMPT 215; CMPT 220; CMPT 225 The internship requirement is an integral part of the Computer Technology student's preparation for employment in the workplace. The internship is a supervised, field experience in which you will observe and participate in the functioning of the information technology department at a sponsoring organization. A student must have completed 30 credit hours in SMCC’s Computer Technology program before registering for the internship. Given its importance, the student should begin examining internship opportunities during their second semester in the program. To ensure the optimal amount of choice in an internship placement, the student should explore as many avenues as possible.
Course Objectives:As a result of this course the student shall be able to: - Acquire experience in applying for a job in the information technology industry.
- Obtain real-world experience in a workplace setting where the student can employ their information technology knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrate an understanding of practices and procedures used in the information technology industry.
Supervisor / Employer intern evaluation = 60 pointsStudent intern experience documentation = 40 points
- The internship experience requires that the student work on a schedule specified by the sponsoring organization. Each student shall be evaluated on their conformance to the work schedule by their immediate supervisor.
